Dr Umme Raheel is a beautician and skin specialist who believes in perfection to the core. Here she talks to Fashion Collection about beauty regime.

Fashion Collection: How and when did you start your journey as a skin specialist?

My interest in skin care was there since I was a little girl. At the age of teenager, it I literally became obsessed with skin care. Then I formally started the practice of skin care along with my studies in the year 2000

Fashion Collection: How would you define your signature style?

My signature style would be to attain a simple look. To me simplicity is everything.

Fashion Collection:  What has been the biggest challenge of your career?

Sometimes in your career, you face a lot of negativity through clients and peers. It is a challenge indeed to face this negativity and not let it dishearten you. For me, this adverse negativity has instilled in me a greater strength to do my best.

Fashion Collection:  What makeup trends would you predict for 2019?

The secret to a flattering no-makeup look is choosing colors that work with the natural tones of your face—you can enhance those tones or go brighter or deeper. The natural shimmery nude look works for the best.

Fashion Collection:  Where do you see yourself in five years?

With all my passion and struggle, I see myself as a leading name in beauty industry who is always trusted in innovations with natural ingredients

Fashion Collection:  Do you agree with less is more as a makeup trend?

I feel a person can feel more of themselves with less makeup. I would not want to make my clients feel like someone else. I realize that less is more with makeup as it helps develop personal style and beauty philosophy. I believe that bringing out a woman’s natural beauty and true self by enhancing her unique features makes her look and feel like an even better version of herself. You don’t need to wear a full face of makeup with 15 different beauty products to look beautiful.

Fashion Collection:  If a client is not happy with the treatment, how do you respond to that?

At the end of the day, it is very important to have a client who is happy and satisfied. However, in cases when a patient is a bit unsatisfied, I try to resolve it patiently. It is pointless to argue or disagree with your client and above all one should not take it personal.

Fashion Collection: What is your favourite celebrity makeup look and why?

I like the look of Mahira Khan and Saba Qamar as they both carry a very confident look.

Fashion Collection: What in your opinion, is the most important quality in a skin specialist?

Good interpersonal and communicative skills with people of all ages, empathy to counsel patients who suffer psychological stress from their visible disease, calm and positive attitude along with aesthetic sense.

Fashion Collection: What is one advice you would like to give your customers about taking care of their skin?

I always tell my patients to try to understand their skin type which may differ from another person. Without knowing your skin type, you cannot apply any beauty product as it may harm your skin. Also very important aspect of your beauty regime should be to never sleep with makeup on.
