Icy drinks chilled to perfection

With the temperatures rising, it is just the right time to enjoy the icy fruit drinks to beat away the heat. Take full advantage of summer fruits and herbs to prepare some delicious summer drinks.

Affogato

An Affogato is an Italian coffee-based dessert like drink.It usually takes the form of a scoop of vanilla gelato or ice cream topped or “drowned” with hot espresso. Some variations also include adding coconut, berries, honeycomb and multiple flavours of ice cream.

Place two small scoops of ice cream (coffee, chocolate or vanilla) in a coffee cup, then pour in a little bit of hot espresso. Top with shaved dark chocolate and chopped hazelnuts.

Whipped Lemonade

Everybody’s favorite treat turns lemonade into a frozen treat that beats the summer heat. It’s sweet and tart and hits the spot every time. Blend frozen pineapple, lemonade, and coconut milk in a blender. Pour into glasses and garnish each with a pineapple wedge and a cherry.

Strawberry Colada Smoothie

A perfectly refreshing and beautiful smoothie! A sweet coconut colada smoothie is swirled together with sweet strawberry puree. Easy to make and so delicious, this recipe is a must to try during summers. Pulse strawberries in a food processor until well pureed. To a blender add banana, pineapple, coconut milk and yogurt. Pulse until well blended. Spoon pineapple mixture into glasses filling about 1/3 full then add a spoonful or two of the strawberry mixture, swirl lightly with a butter knife then repeat twice more. Serve immediately.

Honey iced peach tea

Brew peach flavoured tea and stir in honey and let cool. In a large pitcher, stir together the tea and lime juice, then top with pieces of peach. Serve chilled.

Mango punch

The sweet flavors of mango mixed with a punch of 7up and mango ice cubes hit the spot every time. For the punch mix one glass of 7up with mango smoothie and add extra cubes for that chilled flavour. Alternatively you can also add peach or watermelon fruit cubes as well.

Frozen Margaritas

A little bit tart, a little bit sour, and a little bit sweet, these Frozen Margaritas come together in just minutes and are super family friendly! Place the sugar on a shallow plate. Rub the edge of 4 glasses with the lime wedge, then dip the rims in the coarse sugar. Combine the frozen limeade concentrate, orange juice, grapefruit juice and ice cubes in a blender and blend until slushy. Pour into the glasses to serve.
