Fashion Collection: How did you start your journey on TV?
Suhaee Abro: When I was about 12 years old, I was offered my first role for a tele-film on HUM TV called Guddi. It was about child rape. The director liked my face as according to him, it looked quite authentic and expressive. He didn’t audition me. I would not have been able to audition because I was a very shy kid, but I managed to act in front of the camera. I enjoyed it a lot. After that my acting started. I have not been regular with acting as I have my dance performances at the same time. But since my first tele-film, I try to do one tele-film each year, and I have serials as well. I have been doing TV now for almost 12 years.
Fashion Collection: Is acting easier than dancing?
No, acting is not easier than dancing; dancing is not easier than acting. I don’t think anyone is easier. However I find it easier to switch personalities while dancing. Switching personality while acting is tough for me. If I am doing one character, I like to stick to that. If I am doing one acting project and if I have to do another acting project immediately, it is difficult for me. But if I am doing one form of dance and have to do another form of dance, I can do it more easily. When you act, you change the way you speak, the way you walk, the way you think according to the character you are playing. So in any case, nothing is easier than anything. Everything is challenging and has its own struggles.
Fashion Collection: What is Nritaal and why was it formed?
Suhaee Abro: Nritaal was basically an idea that was mine and my friend and music partner Ahsan Bari. The name was suggested by my father. It means dance and rhythm. The group was about music and dance performances. Ahsan Bari and I started doing live performance and dancing and that is why we created this group. It is very rare these days to see live performance of dance on stage, so we were quite thrilled about it. We formed it and only worked with it for about two years, couldn’t do much after that because it was difficult to earn out of it. We have not wrapped it up completely, it is still there. We hope to do something with it soon one day when we have the finances.
Fashion Collection: How do you handle regrets?
Suhaee Abro: I accept and I forgive. First of all, I try not to have regrets, but that is not human. It is natural to have regrets. I try to accept them. It is easy to say it, but very difficult to do it. For me acceptance of regrets or fears is everything which helps me to move on with life.
Fashion Collection: Three words that describe you?
Suhaee Abro: Passionate, kind, down-to-earth.
Fashion Collection: What angers you?
Suhaee Abro: Injustice, violence and dishonesty. These things anger me and it upsets me to see that people do not have tolerance for each other and for the world anymore. When I think about it, I feel that maybe I am being intolerant to their intolerance, so I try to stay away from it. If it hurts other people, it hurts me upsets me.
